{At heart Wilson is truly a man of science. It's not in his nature to resist the call of the unknown...}
-
You side-eye the man a few steps away from the log you sat on, watching him eagerly re-reading through his blueprints on the makeshift table the two of you made, claiming it as a work desk.
You couldn't help but let your lips curl up at his fidgeting. Finding it oddly cute and rather funny when you notice him mumble a few words here or there. His face having a certain pink glow.. Myabe due to the lightning of the fire.
Glancing back at the small fire, the chopped bits of meat turn a darker color as you turn the skewers so the other side could crisp up.
You couldn't help but recall the few times he acted like this in front of you...
-
During your first meeting, the two of you were more different than... Well, many things!
Clothes for one! While you are dressed in more contemporary wear and fabrics. His was more, dignified, well.. As much as cloths could be in The Constance.
Wilson, ever the gentleman, glances away as you walk beside him. Clothes riding up slightly against your skin, heaving slightly as you drag back your kills together.
You try to strike up conversation and gain his attention, yet his milky-skin becomes a light pink as you do.
The way he spoke, too!
"My dear, are you alright?" You blink, the first time you've been called such a pet-name.
"Huh-? Oh, I'm fine! Don't sweat it!" You wave it off, a bit surprised at the warmth in your own face as you laugh it away.
""Sweat it"? Dearie, I thought we both concluded that the weather is rather too cold for such things."
He was an oddball, but.. You liked him all the same.
-
While you day-dreamed, Wilson peeked at your expression. Enamored by the sight of your far-away gaze, he tried to see if anything caught your eye. Though he couldn't find a single thing, what kind of lovely thought a beauty like you could have?
A small sigh left him as he turned back to his blueprints.
-
Meeting you was one of the strangest and most wonderful encounters he's had since being stuck on the wretched island.
You were quite.. What's the word.. Rather, many words could describe you! Or, actions spoke a bit louder to him.
During the winter season, more so Winters Feast. Wilson sat by the fire, shivering as he made a thermal stone. You and Chester arrive back to camp, you frown as you take a spot beside him.
His eyes held agitation, not bothering to wander his sights on your pitying look.
Kind could be one.. Maybe well-meaning.
You politely take a seat beside him, not too close as Chester happily barked and opened his jaw.
You pull out a few items, cautiously setting a small scarf down on his lap. "I know you don't prefer hats... So I thought this might be more.. um.. Ya' know? "Suitable"?" You test out the phrase on your tongue, smiling hopefully.
You were.. Unknown to him. Such as this daft place, his fate had now been resigned too!
Though.. You made grand company.
Helping him pick up crops, you sang a small tune under your breath. Bits of giggles leaving your throat at a few lyrics. A bit curious of the song, he spoke up.
Questions and inquiries left him as he rambled.
You only smiled, head tilting to the side a few times in confusion at a few proposals he had on the song.
"That's lot-" You huff out a laugh, Wilson could only smile back patiently. Waiting politely now, wanting to listen. You playfully bump his side, "Alright, I'll tell you."
-
You blink away your former thoughts after smelling the scent of something burning...
..!
Yelping, you grab the skewers. But it burns your hands! Causing you to drop them in the fire...
You groan unhappily, now staring at a worried Wilson as he moves to your side.
"Dear, it's alright, we're lucky to have made a few extra rations." Wilson states as he takes a seat, politely holding out his hand for you.
You slowly grin, nodding as you hand him your hand. Interlacing them together. The scientists eyes widen as he coughs awkwardly, glancing away. "I.. Wanted to see if you burned your hand."
Your own eyes widen as you let go quickly.
"I'm fine! See? Oh..." You glance at your hand and see a small cut.
Wilson gently takes your hand, encompassing it tenderly in his palms.
"A butterflies wing should fix it up." Wilson states, fixated on your hand. Lightly tracing it, the touch was kinda soothing...
Chester yips happily, bumping your leg as he opens his jaw. Wilson smiles happily at the chest, "Otto von Chesterfield, Esquire! You smart little lad!" Taking the items from the small critter, Wilson hands it to you as he pets the creature fondly.
The two of you laugh together as the sun slowly sets, the fire burning even brighter.

Ok this may be me being pedantic BUT
Something's always bugged me about the Triumphant Skins. They're supposedly the survivors if they had the opportunity to rule the Constant (minus Maxwell) or something along those lines. And for those most part, they do a good job of it.
But you cannot tell me that Wilson would run it like Maxwell did and dress in a fancy suit that (if you go by his Guest of Honor skin and quote) he'd likely hate.
If Wilson was in charge of the Constant, there's no way he wouldn't treat the place like his own personal science experiment. Studying the behavior of humans under stressful conditions and deadly situations? That would be a goldmine of data for any aspiring scientist of the era.
TLDR Wilson's Hallowed Nights skin is a better fit for a Triumphant skin instead of him cosplaying as Maxwell.

😈🫂 for Wilson P. Higgsbury ( @imaginemyshipswithme )
🧪🥼: "Evening. I appreciate the questions."
😈 - Does S/I get up to mischief? Are they goodie two-shoes, or a menace to society?
🧪🥼: "Hah, Willow? He's a lovely sister figure, but he's also a menace. Let's just say that Willow and forests don't mix."
🫂 - Are you two close? Do you spend a lot of time together?
🧪🥼: "We definitely spend a lot of time together, though I must admit that I would be unsure how close we are. Life in the Constant skews these sorts of things, after all."

Honestly, Paul Dano has thus far played a lot of really interesting and diverse characters over the years.
From a showy Preacher-man to emo teenager to loser teenager geek, to a toxic manipulative writer and whiny cowboy and racist piece of shit, and an animal activist as well as a cross-dressing gender identity exploring young "gentleman" to musical genius Brian Wilson, and Steven Spielberg dad to a psychopathic serial killer and sexy divorced real estate agent neighbor, alien spider, to a sweet-baby faced count, aloof teenage cloned tech genius, and popular stock Twitch streamer and prisoner inmate.
Many other characters, really this man has so much amazing range in terms of character acting and is so extremely good at immersing himself into a character fully.
Definitely would love to see Paul get even more out there and adventurous when to his already awesome character acting.
Like either playing as a slightly mad but brilliant controversial scientist who ends up creating a new being/lifeform/creature that he treats as his child within a post-apocalyptic world where humans are dying out as a way for life to continue onwards or him playing as an eccentric and kinda sweet but cunty middle-aged gay or bisexual man who's the owner of a high-quality club /dive bar, or him voicing a character or a two in an animated movie from Laika studios.
Just seeing Paul Dano do more awesome character work.

willow and wilson as foils
copy-pasted directly from discord, apologies for any poor formatting
i think willow has a lot of interesting parallels with wilson, or at least the Correct Wilson Fanon (lol)
they both have very intense fixations on One Subject. for wilson, it's the Concept of science. not necessarily actual science, but being able to point at something and say it is Very Scientific.
for willow, it's fire. for both of them, these fixations are a manifestation of desiring control over their life and circumstances, and have brought harm to both themselves and the people around them. they are both pretty socially abrasive in different ways.
wilson often comes across as odd or offputting, can be too blunt and uncomfortable. willow is brash, rude, and generally contains all the softness of a sea urchin. both of them struggle with sanity and have been frequently dubbed as insane in one way or another, or otherwise severely mentally ill. bonus points for when wilson's instability causes people to consider him a threat. i think they're friends . um
they don't seem like people who would get along because wilson prides himself on being orderly (or at least having the perception of orderliness) and willow is walking chaos, but i think they see themselves in each other to some degree. they recognize the way their lives mirror each other's, even if they ended up in such different directions
it's especially interesting to me when thinking about how wilson is a gentleman scientist, independantly wealthy, dropped out of uni because he just Didn't Like The Vibes (and definitely wasnt expelled. for. um. checks notes. explosions) and willow has been dirt poor her whole life
willow is uncomfortable with making herself presentable because she doesn't think its possible and she doesn't really like the idea of people truly enjoying her company or being gentle with her. wilson seems obsessed with how he is percieved and maintaining the character of a Good Scientist who is Very Smart and Professional, desperate to please
there's just a lot of really interesting stuff going on in how they parallel one another and work as a dynamic
and unfortunately i think a lot of people miss it. especially when they're just looking for "tee hee ship" or view her strictly through the lens of his counterpart. which, don't get me wrong, i think she's a great counterpart to wilson in the same way maxwell is a great counterpart to wilson, but she has her own identity and character outside of that. people usually can realise that with maxwell, but with her its harder (cause she's a woman)

When your wife girlfriend won't stop bringing home rabbits to keep as pets...
𝐈nfo: Maddie is a very talented animal hand. Passive animals don't run from her until she gets much too close, and she is a very talented trapper. Each trap that she crafts lasts far longer than a standard trap crafted by another survivor.
this one's a very rushed, shitty little piece i worked on this afternoon. not my best work, but i am certainly trying to up my art game! ... ignore all the little mistakes and how i didn't shade half of maddie's face, it's been a long day. also yeah the tree pngs can be considered a tribute to my dst png posting career LMAO

I feel like wilson suffers terrible depersonalization and derealization, and not just from the constant. I feel the way he always felt inferior definitely contributed to it. (see: him being a gentleman scientist, which in modern terms is an independent scientist, due to not being trusted by the science world.)
this is definitely not projecting

Youson Week Day 7: Tender
WAAAAAH I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S ALREADY THE END!! The week flew by so fast! But it's been such a blast participating in this challenge. I had a lot of fun, and am super proud of the work I put in. Plus it reignited my adoration of Wilson which I'm grateful for <3
@mxboxlocks thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating Youson Week. It's been amazing seeing everyone's hard work, their selfships, their passion, and their love for the same gentleman scientist. I can't wait to participate again next year! Until then, have one last fic for the road <3
The brilliant light of the full moon rid the world of darkness. It acted as a spotlight over two survivors in their most intimate moments. As they finished up their love making, the pair lay bare together, with only a tarp draped over their waists for modesty.
Wayward laid on his back, gaze fixed on the vast night sky. Wilson was snuggled against his side, peppering his chest and neck with feather soft kisses. Wayward giggled after each one, his skin tingling and ticklish in the afterglow of their copulation. Wilson smiled against his skin, continuing to give his affection to his companion.
“Have you not yet had your fill of me?” Wayward asked, a smile evident in his voice.
“I've had plenty,” Wilson answered, voice slightly muffled as he placed another kiss, “but that doesn't mean I don't want more.”
“You're so bad,” Way sighed dreamily, wrapping an arm around him to pull the other man closer. Wilson snuggled in, tucking his head under Wayward's chin. He too began to look upon the stars above them.
It wasn't often they had moments of peace, where they could enjoy the scenery of the Constant. Even though it served as a hellish purgatory for the pair, it could also be quite beautiful in places. Wilson always enjoyed stargazing. Out here, there was no light pollution to get in the way of seeing the galaxy above them. But with the advanced darkness the Constant was usually bathed in, it was still rare to see the stars at night.
“What a beautiful evening,” Wilson noted.
“Indeed,” Way agreed. “Almost reminds me of being back home.”
“Honestly, I don't really think about that much anymore,” Wilson admitted, “because, with you, I'm already at home.” His voice came out barely above a whisper. The gentleman felt flustered, embarrassed even, to be admitting that to someone. In all of his wildest dreams Wilson had never thought love would be in the cards for him. He certainly never thought he'd be with another man. It wasn't a thought that shocked him, per say. He just never realized he was capable of such emotions, yet alone having them reciprocated. It felt foreign to be so love sick. Yet not at all unpleasant.
“That was sappy of you to say,” Wayward chuckled. “Don't tell me I've made you soft enough to start waxing poetic?”
Wilson blushed, hiding his face in the crook of Wayward's neck. “And what of it? I can't help the way you make me feel. I've never known anything like this before…”
“Me either,” confessed the author. “But I've always wanted it. Growing up, I read so many romance novels, and dreamed of having someone at my side while I succeeded in my career. I never wanted to be alone. Yet, I isolated myself anyways.”
“As did I,” Wilson chimed. “Isolated, I mean. But I had always preferred it. I didn't need connection when I had science to make me feel whole. I suppose I didn't realize what I was missing until now…”
“...Did you mean it when you said you don't really think about home anymore?” Wayward asked suddenly. “Do you not want to go back?”
“Of course I do. This place is torture. But…I'm not unhappy with the life we've built here, together. Besides, we come from different time periods. If we were to go back, who's to say we wouldn't each get sent to our respective eras? I don't want us to be separated, after everything we've been through.”
“I would come find you,” Wayward said. “I'm from the nineteen forties, that means you would still be around. Though, you would be an old man. But that's alright. I'm sure I could look past the wrinkles and the smell. Even changed, it would still be you at heart. To me, that's all that matters.”
“You would really look for me?” Wilson shifted so he could look at Wayward's face. “I would only be sixty, by the way. That's hardly an old man!”
“That's technically a thirty two year difference between us, Wilson! You'd have lived longer than my whole life span by then. That seems pretty old to me,” Wayward laughed. Then, he got serious again. “Still. I'd go through anything if it meant we could be together. I’d search for a thousand lifetimes to find you…We've killed for each other. We've even died for each other. You don't go through something like that and not want to seek out the one you love after the fact.”
“I suppose you have a point,” Wilson agreed, sinking into silence for a few moments. “I would search for you too, you know. After meeting someone like you, I don't think I could go back to living in that shack all alone. Science is still my truest love. But there's room in my heart for you to compete with it.”
“Oh, so I have to compete against science for your affection?” Way asked playfully, sticking his fists in the air. He punched with his left, then his right, motioning with them like a boxer. “I've gotten pretty good at fighting since entering the Constant. I think I stand a fair chance at beating science for your hand, and your heart.”
“My hand?” Wilson echoed.
Wayward froze, dropping his hands back down. He folded them around Wilson, twiddling his thumbs as he clasped them together.
“As in, marriage?”
Way scratched at one of his sideburns nervously, glancing away. “Well…maybe…” Wilson could see pink creeping onto Wayward's face. He smiled, chuckling softly to himself. It seemed like a topic Wayward wasn't yet ready to discuss fully. That was alright with Wilson. He laid his head back onto Way’s chest, tucking himself beneath his chin again.
Comfortable silence settled over the pair as they enjoyed one another’s company. Wayward's hand found its way into the scientist’s messy hair. He began to comb through it with his fingers, scratching at his scalp each time he returned to the top of his head.
Wilson hummed with pleasure, nuzzling the other man. He returned to pecking at the author's skin, trailing kisses from his pecks, to his collarbone, up his neck, and along his jawline. Wayward adjusted himself to give Wilson the space to move along easily, until the pair found each other locking lips.
Wilson slid onto Wayward's lap, leaning down to deepen the kiss. Wayward lifted his hands, cupping them around the back of his head to pull the gentleman in closer.
Wilson ran his tongue along Wayward's lips asking for entrance. The author gladly let him in, meeting his tongue with his own. They danced together in Wayward's mouth, eliciting sweet moans from each other. After a few moments, the men had to part for air, letting only a couple centimeters keep them apart. With breath regained, the two were at it again in an instant.
They made out long into the night until the euphoria made them so dizzy that they had to take a break; lest they wind up in another heated session of coitus. Wilson sighed with content, laying on top of Wayward as the other rubbed his bare back.
“I love you, Wayward,” he murmured, sounding sleepy.
“I love you too,” Wayward answered, voice matching the other's tired tone. The lovers fell asleep snuggled close to one another, in exactly the place they both always wanted to be. Safe, and adored.

In me and my friends new world the traveling merchant finally spawned, one went to him and read out the contents and I wasn't even listening until I heard 'the gentleman scientist' (Wilson painting). The SECOND I asked where he was he fucking despawned
But fortunately he bought it for me :-) So I yelled into the mic in despair for no reason
#It's such a rare fucking item it's a low ass chance for him to have it#And he only ever sells one of the four D.ST paintings at a time if he has one at all#chemistry 🧪#yapping#Today is just a Wilson day apparently I guess
